File SR22 and SR26 forms to Maine now through NIC Insurance Filings

SR22 and SR26 forms for Maine drivers can now be submitted electronically with NIC Insurance Filings. The Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) has expanded its participation in NIC Insurance Filings to become the latest state agency to accept high-risk personal auto insurance forms through NIC Insurance Filings.

As of 3/30/22, NIC Insurance Filings users can submit two new forms to Maine:

• SR22, Uniform Financial Responsibility Certificate of Insurance
• SR26, Uniform Financial Responsibility Notice of Cancellation or Termination

"Our department is committed to providing better service to all Mainers through the smart use of technology," explained Shenna Bellows, Maine's Secretary of State. "Our partnership with NIC Insurance Filings will help the BMV receive and process time sensitive proof of insurance forms more efficiently and help drivers get back on the road more quickly."

Insurance filers will be able to submit these forms using their existing accounts and the same interface they use to submit forms to state agencies today.

Similarly, users will receive the same status update emails for their SR22 and SR26 filings.

NIC Insurance Filings users can also submit SR22 and SR26 forms to the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Washington Department of Licensing.
