Making it Work During Pandemic: NIC Insurance Filings Helps Pennsylvania Go Virtual

Published: January 26, 2021

In March 2020, government was adapting to the new normal: working from home and doing everything electronically without access to paper records.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) faced these challenges for motor carrier insurance forms. While working remotely, PUC staff was unable to access forms submitted on paper, potentially leading to unintended lapses in insurance verification.

The PUC reached out to NIC Insurance Filings for assistance. The NIC Insurance Filings team helped new insurance companies enroll in the program and start filing to the PUC online.

Additionally, forms were enhanced with new fields to provide the information the PUC needed to quickly approve forms, including authority types mandated by the State.

With these efforts, PUC filings processed through NIC Insurance Filings increased by 20% in 2020, and motor carriers maintained valid insurance status to operate in the state of Pennsylvania.

"NIC Insurance Filings has delivered valuable services to the PUC for over 14 years and continues to be a responsive partner and provide ongoing maintenance, support and customer service," said Tatjana Roth, Bureau of Technical Utility Services Transportation Division Supervisor. "NIC delivers on our organization's mission to provide a quick, convenient solution for insurance companies to file the required documentation for their motor carrier customers."
